Five Reasons You Should Download “The Adventures of Bernard”

This past week, we added The Adventures of Bernard the World Destroyer by Skottie Young to the store. I’m giving it its own blog post because it is super awesome and you must buy it. Here’s why:

1. It’s a pioneer of creator-owned digital comics.

A few weeks ago while I was in the throes of making this website and trying to gather interest for creating digital content, Skottie released Bernard as an ebook on his website. Since then, it has become the center of a wave of indie artists making and selling PDF comics and books. While he isn’t the first artist to sell a digital comic, he had an undeniable influence on the fans, fellow artists, and the media. He has documented his “experiment” over on his blog, which I highly recommend you read.

2. It’s Skottie-freaking-Young.

If you are unfamiliar with Skottie’s work (which would be a shame), he is a regular artist for Marvel and the genius behind the award-winning Wizard of Oz series. Check out his work at

3. The art.

I love the loose and quirky style of Skottie’s cartooning. He stretches the limits of character design and expression where other artists might rely on standards and habits, which makes his style one of the most unique and entertaining.

4. The writing.

Bernard is a gag comic featuring a funny little alien as he observes the absurdities of this world, poking fun at a few celebrities in the process. It is HILARIOUS.

5. It’s two bucks.

For the quality and entertainment value, this is a STEAL! Two bucks is not going to break anybody’s bank – so what are you waiting for? Go get it.
